Share what you know

Waterlog.au is built on sharing community stories. We’re keen on every kind of water perspective, be it adventure hidden waterholes, epic coastal treks, ultra swims, your local ocean pool or swim squad, book reviews, or just how water shapes you and your world. Got a yarn, some local knowledge, or even half an idea for an article? Send it through below and let’s bring it to life.

You keep the copyright. Your article stays yours, we publish it with your byline.

What ends up here

All sorts, really. Swim history, local clubs, a pool you love, a swim that went sideways, water temperature data, a book you read. If it touches water, it fits.

Length, and other things that aren’t rules

Most pieces land somewhere between 800 and 1,500 words, but shorter is fine and longer is fine. Write it the length it wants to be and submit a photo or graphic too.

The ones that read best tend to be about one place, in your own voice, with the specific bits left in; which corner holds the cold, the year the pool cracked, the morning the bluebottles turned up. That’s the stuff nobody can look up.

One thing we do ask: when discusing swimming keep a mind to whether you need to mention safety. Plus if a swim has something about it worth knowing, mention it. Someone will read your piece and go there.

How it goes up

Your name goes on it. If you’d like, we can add a short bio and a photo as well, with links to wherever else you live online, entirely up to you.

We’ll share it around once it’s up: the newsletter, Instagram, the group.

After submission

We’ll be reading it very soon, unless we are away swimming somewhere, in which case it could take a wee while longer to respond. When we do get to it, we’ll work through publishing it online with you together.
